June 2022 - MALSP Meeting - Playbooks - an essential tool for successful EDiscovery teams

SYNOPSIS:

Every day there’s a new project. They all have unique traits, but most parts overlap time and time again. Many firms and corporations are using an “EDiscovery Playbook” to streamline their project workflow from intake to close.

An EDiscovery Playbook is a living document that helps case teams establish a consistent workflow and empower themselves during the project lifecycle by providing consistency through the chaos.

Memorialize responsibilities, matter intake processes, review workflows, and more! Know who to call and – more importantly – when to call someone. Establish escalation paths for emergency situations. Encourage repeatable processes that save money and time by requiring analytics and technology assisted review when projects meet criteria or price points.

Our experts with experience in law firms, corporations, and vendors will discuss why Playbooks are an essential tool for successful EDiscovery teams!

PRESENTERS:

Steve Gage, Director of Electronic Discovery, Accenture

Steve Gage, is the Director of Electronic Discovery at Accenture. He has over 15 years of experience in the legal technology industry. In his role, he acts as the primary liaison between Legal and IT with global responsibility for managing the Company’s data preservation and discovery processes for Accenture and its nearly 550,000 employees in more than 50 countries.

Steve graduated from Minnesota State University, Mankato. He lives in Rochester, Minnesota with his wife, Deanna, and their two children, Colton and Cayley. In his spare time, he coaches whatever sport is in season for his son and spends as much time as possible boating.

He has also created documentation, marketing and training videos, and websites for many of today’s leading eDiscovery applications.

Matt Samet, ESQ, PMP, Senior Project Manager, TransPerfect Legal Solutions

Matt began his legal career in New York in 2004, transitioning to a focus on e-discovery in 2007, while working as part of the Discovery Attorney Team at Willkie Farr and Gallagher. Upon moving to Minnesota in 2012, Matt began his legal technologies and services project manager career, where his ability to foster relationships with highly sophisticated clients and oversee projects at the program level led to his promotion to Portfolio Manager where he regularly set up account level SOPs and Best Practice Playbooks. Matt comes to Transperfect Legal Solutions (TLS) with the perspective of someone who has worked on both the law firm and vendor side of the e-discovery industry - he can frame ideas and concepts in a way that is digestible by all audiences.
