November 2021 MALSP Meeting - 2021-2022 Legal Operations Trends and Transformations


SYNOPSIS: 

For our November meeting, the Minnesota Association of Litigation Support Professionals is holding a panel discussion on trends and transformations in legal operations, both for 2021 in retrospect and for 2022 in anticipation of the changes ahead. Discussion topics will include legal operations process management, legal operations spending and allocation, preferred platforms and changing tides in legal tech initiatives, networking and strategic partnerships, and developments in department or organization-wide diversity, inclusion and equality initiatives.

Panelists will answer the following questions:

  • What does “legal operations” mean within your organization?
  • Has your legal operations team grown?
  • Where is your organization spending more? Less?
  • What are your organization’s tech initiatives?
  • Are there notable differences in who legal operations is partnering with internally and externally?
  • What are your organization’s diversity, inclusion and equality initiatives?

Amanda Sabia is an enthusiastic innovator in legal technology. She currently leads an international Pre-Sales team at Relativity, the legal industry's best-in-business eDiscovery and compliance software. With over eleven years legal technology experience with a focus on eDiscovery Client Services, Amanda enjoys being at the forefront of the industry. In addition to her work at Relativity, she serves on the Boston Mayor's SPARK Council, where she hosts the monthly video podcast, CiviCoffees.  Additionally, Amanda has a passion for mentoring; serving as an advisor for Sigma Sigma Sigma National Sorority, the Relativity Fellows program, and Break Through Tech Chicago. She is an AchieveForum Certified Facilitator with experience in guest lecturing academic and professional communities on professional development and eDiscovery. Amanda is passionate about driving positive impact in her communities, loves meeting new people, and enjoys everything Boston, Massachusetts has to offer. 

Tony Mozeleski is a 20+ year Legal Operations veteran with experience at many very large legal departments including GM, Toyota, and Apple. Currently Tony is the Legal operations manager at EV Startup Lucid Motors. Tony splits his time between his home in Hawaii and office at Lucid in CA and is looking forward to building a Legal Operations group from the ground up at Lucid.

Lyndsey Wurst - Currently I am holding the Legal Operations Manager position at Securian Financial. This move was facilitated by me wanting to take the law firm knowledge and apply what I could in a corporate environment. In my career, I have primarily focused on eDiscovery, trial technology needs and have always had a special interest in managing people. I have always been fascinated about the many different ways that our industry runs their legal departments and law firms. I wanted to try and make things better and more consistent in a Corporate environment when it comes to costs, how we approach our technology and more importantly, how we train and keep our support staff.

Jamie Blomquist is the CIO at Maslon LLP, where he is responsible for the firm's technology, security, and information governance efforts. Jamie holds an MBA from the University of Minnesota and has over 20 years of experience in building successful teams and leading IT strategy at law firms. Jamie was recognized as the "Unsung Legal Hero" by Minnesota Lawyer in 2017. He has a unique blend of technology, marketing, and financial management skills that he developed working for large tech, startups, and professional service organizations. He uses this experience to help deliver practical business solutions that enhance productivity and provide value to shareholder

Alexzandria Neumiller is a Paralegal in the Law Department at Prime Therapeutics LLC. She handles subpoenas and manages Prime’s eDiscovery tool, including creating projects, as well as processing documents into and productions from the tool. She is currently finishing the first draft of Prime’s eDiscovery Playbook. Alexzandria also created and implemented the process for Prime’s utilization of Advanced eDiscovery for Legal Holds. This included managing the move from the previous Legal Hold system into Advanced eDiscovery. More recently she had the privilege of joining Prime’s Black Professionals + Allies Employee Resource Group, and is currently serving as part of the Support Team to the Leadership Team for this ERG. When Alexzandria is not working she enjoys spending time with her immediate family which consists of her significant other, adult children, her granddaughter, and pets.
