July MALSP Meeting - Case Insights and Portable TAR models

SYNOPSIS:

According to the 2021 ELM MarketView report recently released by Hyperion Research, over 42% of law departments plan to invest in AI and machine learning in the next two years, with 34% investing in this technology for the first time. While corporate law departments and law firms are increasingly adopting advanced technologies to digitally transform their work, many teams have had challenges implementing AI, or harnessing their own data to train AI models to give them unique value and competitive advantage Even experienced eDiscovery teams may lack sufficient knowledge, ample staff to train, or the ability to utilize AI beyond basic use cases such as Technology Assisted Review (TAR) and Continuous Active Learning (CAL).

July’s discussion lead by Russell Hutchins will be around pre-built AI models, including models for common litigation topics including sensitive data, employment, and labor disputes, as well as providing models to eliminate irrelevant data during an investigation. Beyond using pre-built models, Russell will discuss how to fine-tune these models, build models based on prior eDiscovery activities, or create models from scratch.

Russell Hutchins is a Senior Director of Advanced Technologies with over 9 years of experience in electronic discovery. Russell leads Epiq's Managed Review Services adoption and implementation of advanced analytics for e-discovery. Mr. Hutchins has extensive experience driving efficiency through the use of advanced analytics including Continuous Active Learning and Standard Active Learning. Mr. Hutchins holds a BS degree from Brigham Young University and a JD from Georgia State University College of Law. He is a licensed attorney in Georgia as well as a Relativity Certified User, Relativity Certified Administrator, Relativity Analytics Specialist, Relativity Assisted Review Specialist, and Relativity Certified Expert.
